btw, I tried removing everything like you said, and every time I remove it, I am able to upload the image fine, and I can see that the image is in the proper directory, also the thumb is created fine and all the info is there, however the large image just doesn't load...the "loading" message just keeps spinning. I made sure that the image was within 600x600 too.

Any ideas?

Hi. I really like your gallery, and am trying to get it to work for me. I'm making a gallery for someone else who isn't very computer savvy, and it's really important that the IPTC info not get lost when using the upload. So...

I saw in the post above that you said to find:

$handle->image_resize     = true;
$handle->image_ratio          = true;
$handle->image_y                = 600;
$handle->image_x                = 600;
$handle->jpeg_quality         = 95;

Then you said to "remove" it. Do you actually mean to remove all the various $handle statments ? Or would it also be possible to just change the "true" to "false" in the image_resize ?

Yes, if you have the uploader simply upload the files and not resize the large images. To do this, simple open up the index.php file inside the uploader and find the following line:

$handle->image_resize     = true;
$handle->image_ratio          = true;
$handle->image_y                = 600;
$handle->image_x                = 600;
$handle->jpeg_quality         = 95;

If you remove this, it will simply upload the files as is. But you will need to batch process your images pre-hand to no more than 600x600 for the images to work in the gallery (unless you modify the gallery to accept larger images). The uploader will upload the images, and create the thumbails, but not rewrite the images so the IPTC data should stay intact.

is there a way that the uploader doesn't remove the IPTC Infos?
your way looks to me a bit non common.

anyway, how do you add the IPTC Infos to the images?
do you download the images via FTP, add the IPTC Data and re-upload the images?

so where's the error?

need some help and would be great to get some infos.

Yes, that is the pop up box that comes up when i'm in the Upload Images page - I browse/navigate to the file that I would like uploaded, then when I click the submit button, i get the pop up. When I click 'save to disk,' it only saves the index.php file (no zip file). I opened index.php, which is completely blank. I never actually get to the File Upload Results page (I got to that page before when I typed in different names for the 'Image Folders Location' and 'Thumbnail Folder Location.' The result of that attempt returned an error - "Error: Destination directory can't be created. Can't carry on a process").

Thanks for the help! I'll implement this.

Understandable that some people might not understand the realative path and absolute path. I made it that way because if you had multiple galleries you could send the images to that one folder or another. But maybe I could have it read any folder that is located in the e2 photo gallery directory and they could just choose from the list of folders in a drop down.

Again, thanks for the ideas and feedback.

OK I got your email and tried the patch you sent, but it was actually the same as the one I'd already tried before.

So I started looking more closely at the code and I figured out what the problem was: You're referencing $_POST vars that are unset. I guess whether or not you'd see this error depends on your error display setting. Anyway you can fix it by replacing lines 118-123 in uploader/index.php with:

	$crop1=isset($_POST['crop1']) ? $_POST['crop1'] : '';
$crop2=isset($_POST['crop2']) ? $_POST['crop2'] : '';
$crop3=isset($_POST['crop3']) ? $_POST['crop3'] : '';
$crop4=isset($_POST['crop4']) ? $_POST['crop4'] : '';
$crop5=isset($_POST['crop5']) ? $_POST['crop5'] : '';
$crop6=isset($_POST['crop6']) ? $_POST['crop6'] : '';

Also: I think that you should load the image folder locations from the config file for this script instead of making people type them in (I know that my clients do not generally understand relative paths, nor do they care to learn about them).

Oh - I just assumed that the larger images would be resized to fit the display area. My mistake. I think that this would be a good idea, however. If the image is already less than or equal to the maximum size then you wouldn't need to recompress it, but if it's bigger then you would. You could set these values (and also the JPG compression percentage) in the config file. This would allow for Photoshop-free management of galleries by non-techie clients.

To return to the original reason for this post, what might be causing the crop# errors on upload?

The image uploader currently does not Scale the larger images. I did this because if someone resizes the images and preps them for the web and then the Uploader resizes them again, you'd have double compression. If you like this to be a feature, I'd be willing to look at doing it that way. Or I could make it an option.

I mainly built the Uploader to upload and automatically create the thumbnails, but left the large image sizes to your liking. If enough poeple feel that they want it to resize the larger images also, I could add that in.

That doesn't seem to have fixed this for me. I got both the optimized and full downloads here today, and they both gave me the same errors as above on submit (and my large files are not being cropped or scaled either, although my thumbnails are). I reapplied the patch you link to above just in case it hadn't made it into the download files but that made no difference.

The folders are CHMOD 777 (files are uploaded), and the server is Apache 1.3.33 with PHP 4.3.10.
