thumbs created from png and gif images are not displayed and besides that png pics with alpha transparency are not properly rendered (white background)

The upload class I am using with the gallery has it's own documentation that can help you with the transparency. You might need to update the class.upload.php file to the latest.

I'm having the same problem with PNGs in that the alpha transparency information is changed when I use the uploader. The latest source file for class.upload.php was from Nov 2007. Is that newer than the one you are using? I updated the file but now nothing appears. Is there some code that needs to be altered withing the class file?

Nothing would be needed to change on the class file, but probably on the uploader file that passes in info to the class on upload. I haven't checked into how to keep the transparancy in png, but if you read through the documentation you should be able to find it.
