I really would like to be abble to setup a directory and that the script would automaticly scan the directory to show the images.

This could be possible, I had so many technical issues with so many users in the past version it was changed to the XML format. In the E2 Upload area the Output XML section actually uses this feature of reading a folder to output the XML, it could be modified to output the javascript array. But right now I'm working on an version for Wordpress and a more robust admin version which would eliminate the need to use the XML file. I don't have a timeline on it as I'm trying to fix bugs and add features to the admin to make it a lot more user friendly.
