how do I add a description for each picture?

I think you right click on your imagefile you are gonna to upload and press properties. In properties you click at the tag "summary" (i think it named so) and fill in the details...

once a pic is uploaded to my web server there's no way to edit those summary tags

okey. So there is no possibility to download the image on the server to the computer, fill in the details in the summary tag and then download and overwrite the old file?? But it should not be that way anyway =) It must be some other way...

There is now way currently to modify the photo meta data once uploaded.

Typically the process I go through to get the Description and Title on the photo is upload the photos, which creates the appropriate file sizes, then I download the large images using an ftp program, I add the descriptions and titles and using the same ftp program I upload them back.

hmm if i upload them, then download them ftp it locks the summary tags, like they're read only maybe?

ok i was able to edit the description tag, now what do i need to change for the gallery to auto display the description below the pics like in the demo?

What are you using to add descriptions to your photos? You can use most photo editing software via photoshop, gimp, etc.

You shouldn't need to do anything, if you added the description to the IPTC data, the gallery will automatically read that info in when it builds the gallery. Just add the description to the photos and upload them to your site.

If you want to add descriptions, etc. to your photos, you can do it from the command line using exiv2 (http://www.exiv2.org/). This allows you to view and set exif and iptc info embedded in a jpg file. In this case, we need to set the information in the iptc data. The commands I use under linux look like this:

exiv2 -M"set Iptc.Application2.ObjectName Title of the Image" myphoto.jpg
exiv2 -M"set Iptc.Application2.Caption Image Description" myphoto.jpg
exiv2 -M"set Iptc.Application2.Keywords tag1 tag2 tag3" myphoto.jpg
exiv2 -M"set Iptc.Application2.Copyright Copyright dragonsbyte 2008" myphoto.jpg

Hello!

This seems stupid but I'm also unable to add image descriptions to jpg fles. I open the file with PhotoShop, go to File > File Info, populate all the fieldes (title, description, author, etc), but when I save the file and go to the windows explorer, and go to the File Properties, all the fields remain blank.

What is happening?!

After adding the file info to your jpg how are you saving your files? Are you using the export for web? I believe if you use the export for web, it doesn't keep the File Info/Meta Data.

I am not sure also what info show's up in the File Properties of Windows Explorer, I don't run Windows.

I am using paintshop pro and saved all the data I can find for the image and saving it then uploading it and nothing.
this kind of places a big NO to using this tool....#$%^#$%^

I finally get it to work and now I can't add descriptions.

Really in the next version of the gallery and admin panel needs to be added so that you can upload photos from the admin panel, and at any time go to photos and insert this information using form fields. But then this would probably require a database for storing that information.

I would like to see a mysql version so that a database could be used with an admin panel. Maybe in E2 Gallery Pro?

I am working on the next version, which I am calling E2 Gallery Pro, but haven't wanted to announce anything officially because i am not sure when I will be able to finish it. Work and Side work comes first and this is a side project so it makes a new release hard to plan and release.
